What to Do
Take two hats into the circle with a CD or MP3 player and music. The game is played as musical hats.
Start with one of the hats and introduce the hat. Have a discussion about who wears a hat like this, what they do in their job and so on. The players in the circle then agree on an action that depicts the job that the ‘hat wearer’ does. For example, the fireman might have a hose and make whooshing noises to put out the fire. The policeman might lift his hat and say, ‘Can I help you?’ Try to avoid negative connotations of policemen rounding
up robbers and jailing them!
The music starts and the first hat is passed from child to child round the circle. When the music stops, the child who has the hat puts it on and starts the action. All the rest of the group join her in the action. Then the music starts again. After a while introduce the second hat and then have two hats going round the circle and both the actions are done one after the other when the music stops.
Rules
Listen to one another and the music. Concentrate. Everyone can have a turn.
