Children love this game and it’s a great way to promote active and engaging playtimes.
I was inspired to try the Tic Tac Toe Relays after seeing Jill Lula at Oasis Ryelands teach it to her Playground PALs.This is a game that involves short vigorous activity along with thinking skills.
Time:20 minutes
Age Range: 6-7
Ideal Number of Players: two teams of 6-8 players.
Equipment Needed: 9 hoops , 6 red bean bags, 6 green bean bags (or use alternative colours), 2 cones to designate the starting point.
What to do
1. Choose 2 x teams,usually 5/6 children in a team
2. Choose 4 x referees
3. Choose 1 x caller – on your marks get set, go!
4. Each student at the front will have 1 bean bag.
5. On go, the first person from each team will run down to the tic tac toe board and place their bean bag in one of the hula hoops.
6. After they place the bean bag, they will race back to their line to high five the next student in line.
7. The next student will then place their bean bag in an open hoop.
The goal is to have your team get 3 in a row (horizontally, vertically, ordiagonally).
8. If the team scores 3 in a row they get 1 point. The team to score 5 points is the winner.
9. If all 3 bean bags have been played and there is no tic tac toe, then the bean bags are gathered up and the game starts again.
After the game is over, the winning team will stay and play again.
The judging team will come on to challenge, and the next 3 in line will judge the next game. The game will continue to cycle through. You can have multiple games going at a time
