What To Do
This tag game is played with defined boundaries – usually a large rectangular playing area about the size of one third of a netball court. Cones can mark the area if there are no lines.
The playing area is the ocean. All players (fish) line up on one side of the ocean.
One player is chosen to be the octopus (tagger). When the leader blows the whistle (or says, ‘Go!’), the fish swim as fast as they can to the other side of the ocean where they are safe.
They must try not to get tagged by the octopus before reaching the other shore. This is repeated until the fish are narrowed to one. If a fish gets tagged, he becomes seaweed. This means his feet must remain planted on the spot where he was tagged. When a player becomes seaweed, he becomes a friend to the octopus and can help the octopus to tag fish (without moving his feet) as they swim by.
The seaweed may not lift his roots out of the sand. If this happens, that player becomes dried up seaweed on the shore until the next game. The last fish left in the sea becomes the octopus for the next game.
Rules
Use 2-3 taggers instead of one.
